Description: Looking a hybrid of his great-great grandfather and great-grandfather, the most striking thing about Simon is that he hasn't married yet. Inheriting most of the height of his twice-great grandfather, he also inherited the man's poor eyesight. Wears tortoiseshell glasses and has dark, wavy hair that he keeps closely cropped for the sake of professionalism.

Though he's quite tall, he's shaped more like a triangle than a rectangle, with broad shoulders tapering down into slender hips. He enjoyed enough sport during his time at Eton and Oxford to give him some muscle, though his focus was on crew (hence his shoulders) and polo.

Looks the part of an aristocrat. Strong nose, somewhat unaffected default expression, but no hint of past inbreeding.

Tends to dress the part of a Ralph Lauren model, with occasional rebellious forays into Dolce & Gabbana. Has a penchant for tweed.

Personality

Though a part of the Fitzwilliam legacy, and the descendant of two of the most ancient British lines of aristocracy (Howard + Fitzwilliam), Simon isn't entirely too posh to be interesting. He's affable and easy-going and even quite tolerant. But even so, he tends to err on the side of restraint rather than excitement, as at the moment is the only male in his generation, so will eventually be the Duke of Wiltshire.

He does have a dry sense of humor and is not easily overwhelmed and, like his great-grandfather, has a slight streak of mischief, but his idea of fun is a weekend in the country wearing tweed, or yachting around some tropical islands just to yacht.

Not quite a workaholic, but has the potential to become one.

The first male in several generations not to have married by his early-20s, which he does think about from time to time, but in an era where his extended family, a family he's mostly estranged from, is always under the microscope, he's not overeager to settle down. Half the women he encounters ask him about diamonds as it is.

His Life

Raised chiefly under the political half of the Fitzwilliam family, Simon's branch of the family is considerably smaller than his great-great uncle Andy's, which is the half dominating the papers. After some unnamed incident around the time Nigel was injured in WWII, Nigel's family returned to the old traditions and rarely did much with the other two branches.

Simon was raised around his three female cousins, with occasional visits to his great-great Aunt Anne and her descendants and even fewer visits to the diamond side. He went through the usual rigor of nursery school with his governess, then Ludgrove, and finally Eton, where he learned that the only family members anyone pays attention to are not people he knows. (Scott Fitzwilliam's youngest, Kevin, was in his final year when Simon started, and two years, in Alice Fitzwilliam's only son took Kevin's place.)

During his time at Eton, he took up a variety of sports and sang for the chapel choir. Never possessing the strong, playboy personality of many of his ancestors, Simon still boasted a great variety of close friends and acquaintances, and was popular. He was also focused on his work, determined to attend Oxford or die trying. The frivolous nature of his cousins once-removed were almost a driving force: they were the only people anyone paid attention to, but he would be the one in government. Because of this, he has always been quite self-assured, which, though not quite the playboy his great grandfather and uncle were, gave him an air of attractive disinterest. The sort of thing that gained him admirers, but no girlfriends.

Simon didn't go without his period of rebellion. For much of his final two years at Eton, he spent weekends in London and dated a handful of girls. Focused on goofing off with his friends more than working. Picked up the familial pipe and has been smoking ever since. After deciding girls his age only cared about his cousins once removed, began to chase after the younger female teachers (and even a few older ones). And a few older ladies outside of Eton, as well. He found their discussion more interesting, and their experiences more tangible. But as with all things teenage, it didn't last, and during his years at Oxford, he was a diligent worker who rarely set aside time for anything but revision, internships, and sport. He had a long term girlfriend, but their relationship ended when each interned separately, and found themselves neglecting each other. She married just out of school, and he has only dated once since then (it ended similarly).

Since leaving university, he's been working in Parliament. He lives in London and travels to the country on weekends to play polo and hunt. His mother and grandmother hound him endlessly about marrying, and tease him that if he's not careful he's going to be unmarried and childless like the current duke. At this point, after a lifetime of being the Fitzwilliam no one cares about, he's not sure he minds.

Simon hates a fuss. It's easier to care only about himself, though perhaps not as pleasant.
